A huge Thank You to Mr. Besinaiz and his Comcast team as well as to all the community members that came and volunteered their time. Comcast provided all the supplies and materials for this day: 5 trees and butterfly garden were planted, US map painted; crosswalk painted, bark in the flowerbeds, wall balls painted, garden boxes filled with dirt, and backpack racks for all the classrooms!
Comcast also provided breakfast, lunch and a t-shirt for everyone!
Here are a few pictures. Please feel free to send Mr. Witte picture that he can add to this post.

Tips for Success on CAASPP State Testing
April 24 -May 5
· Research is very clear on the importance of healthy eating and rest to increase performance on standardized testing. Be sure that your child gets 8-10 hours of sleep each night and eats a healthy breakfast each day of testing. Breakfast foods should be low in sugar and high in protein to enhance performance.
· Please make sure that your students are on time each day and stay for the entire day.
· Make sure that your students know who is picking them up each day. We will not interrupt classes during testing to deliver messages.
· Avoid stressful situations prior to testing.
· Encourage your child to do his/her best.
· Think positive thoughts!
STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS (Please discuss with your children)
· Be sure to read the entire question or problem before trying to answer. Be sure you understand the question, being careful to notice words like ‘not’ or ‘never’ or ‘all of the above’.
· Notice special headings, pictures, or map keys. These will give you answers or clues to some questions.
· Understand that some sections of a test will take longer than others.
· It is important to persevere through the testing process and do your best on all sections.
· When completing the reading portion of the test, it is important to read the questions thoroughly and look back in the text for the answers.
· Make sure to work out all math problems and do not guess at the answer.

Otter Trotter
Reward
Mr. Witte will donate $150 to purchase one or more types of animals to help those in need around the world if the school can run a total of 3,500 miles by June 2. We are currently at 2,300 miles. If students, staff and parents want to chip in to make it possible to donate larger animals or more animals, they can turn in donations to the office.
Students will get to vote on which type of animal(s) they would like to buy and donate. Each foot (every 5 miles) a student gets, earns them a vote. Someone who runs 20 miles get 4 votes that they can put anywhere on the ballot.
